Trying to make a single key launch for Outlook 2000 Notes

#1 Post by Uncletoad » Thu Dec 27, 2007 10:11 am

I have made my left touchpad key fire up Notepad for me and I've been trying to make the right key fire up Office/Outlook 2000 Notes "new Note". Can't seem to get it to fire up the right .exe file.

Ideas?

A. There are much better free and open source alternatives than the Notepad <shudders>. For example, take a look at Notepad++

B. I don't use MS Outlook <shudders> but you might be able to accomplish opening a "new Notes" window by creating a batch file and invoking that batch file from the right click. For the command line options for Outlook take a look at:

Outlook Command-Line Switches

These are for MS Outlook 2003 so not 100% sure if they will work with the MS Outlook 2000 or not but its trivial to try.

Good luck.

I recall they did away with many of the easy ways to simplify Outlook launches and "new [object]" shortcuts with 2003. IIRC, in 2000, the Office Shortcut Bar (which is a folder buried somewhere under your user profile, or maybe it was under \program files\office\office10\blahblahblah....) has shortcuts for things like this. I made single-click icons on my start menu for "new message" "new appointment" "new contact" etc.by pillaging that shortcut bar folder. Search your hard drive, under the Office program files or your user profile, you'll find it.

For 2003, I used some of those shortcuts, but I found that I couldn't create the cute icon for a Calendar object. I think. Or something. (I'm on Linux at work so I leave most of my Office and Windoze knowledge at home.)

Now ... whether this will work with our keyboard mapping utility ... that's another puzzle. HTH.

Yea I have that pinned to the start menu but for some reason the Right click trackpoint button won't map to it.
