T41 GPU - socketed or soldered?
Just wondering if any of you guys have cracked your t41s open. I would like to know whether the GPU is soldered or socketed.
I can not seem to find a config that I like up here in Canada. I want a 1.5 and a Radeon 9600 - but the IBM Canada webiste wants $4k for one like that. I thought I might be able to roll my own if I could get the parts - unless I need to replace the entire logic board.

Current: 2016 Lenovo X260, 2015 MacBook
way too many pins and in a very delicate area... take a look at some of the pics Anandtech did of the motherboard (top and bottom) from the T40 when it came out. I believe Bill has a link from his page (it's the FIC/Dell/IBM review-- they dismantled them all)Nabeel wrote:Would you be able to unsolder it and place the new one in?

That would be a tremendous upgrade.kyrotech wrote:if only the T42 had an option for a 128 MB Mobility Radeon 9800
It would allow most, if not all, games to run at native resolution with 4xAA
Unfortunately, it's not going to happen
