T41p shuts off when bumped or moved.
i have this ibm T41p and when ever i slightly move it or bump it the hole computer shuts off. and the only way to get it to turn back on is to take out the battery and unplug it then put it back in. i have tested the memory put a different hard drive in it as well as the battery. it mostly dose it when the computer first turns on. after being on for a wile it works a little better. you can move it and unless you set it down in a little bit of a hard way it will stay on.
i mostly use this for games and it dose just great for that. playing battlefield 2 ect.
this laptop is not under warranty anymore so i'm hoping its not the motherboard
anyways thanks guys

Have a look at the sticky thread at the top of the board, t42 shuts down when i move it. There might be some relevant info there.

I had the same issue on my T40. The LCD would go black but the machine would stay on. The problem gradually got worse from just moving the screen to the full blown had to type veryyyyy softly to not have it shut down.
Bottom line was new motherboard. The video card soldering loosened from the mb.
Since the new board has been in place have had no problems whatsoever

Sounds like the broken motherboard problem which is common to that model. Comes from picking it up one handed on the front (to the right of the mouse pad area) of the laptop.
I didn't realize that IBM made T41P's. What size screen does it have?

sorry it took me so long to replay its kind of funny some days you can pick it up and move it all around. upside down everything even riding it a car. but most of the time its the smallest little move it just shuts down. and the only way to get it back on is to remove the battery..
anyways the specs of this ibm T41p are: Pm 1.7ghz 1.5GB ram 60GB 7200rpm drive 14.1 SXGA bluetooth crappy 802.11 b (only B sucks) dvd-rw ati firegl T-2 128MB video card. DX9b
not a half bad computer.
