R51 Motherboard Compatibility

#1 Post by chocorem » Fri Dec 28, 2007 11:50 am

Hello,

just got a new problem with one of my Thinkpad (R51 (1829-R6G) )

I assume that my mobo (motherboad) is broken. The R51 sometimes doen't boot, and when it boots, the USB ports never work (even on the dock).

So now I'm looking for a mobo replacement. the mobo is a 27R2037.

Can I put every other R51 Mobo in it ? or are they compatibilities issues ?

regards

Greg

Product: ThinkPad R51 1829-R6G [change]

Operating system: All [change]

Original description: P M 725, 512MB RAM, 60GB HDD, 15 XGA(1024x768) TFT LCD, 32MB ATI Radeon 7500, CD-RW/DVD-R Multi-Burner, Intel 802.11b/g wireless(MPCI), Bluetooth/Modem(CDC), 1Gb Ethernet(LOM), Secure Chip, IEEE 1394, 6 cell Li-Ion battery, WinXP Pro
As long as you can drop the P M 725 (Dothan) and the same RAM speed (400MHz) you now use you shouldn't have a problem.

Use this as a general guide; http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:R51 and this as a FRU guide; ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mo ... 9t6190.pdf

So I found a board from à R50p 1832-23G

Product: ThinkPad R50p 1832-23G [change]
Operating system: All [change]

Original description: P M 1.7GHz, 512MB RAM, 60GB 7200rpm HDD, 15 UXGA(1600x1200) TFT LCD, 128MB ATI FireGL T2, CD-RW/DVD-R Multi-burner, Bluetooth/Modem(CDC), 1GB Ethernet(LOM), Intel 802.11b wireless(MPCI), Secure Chip (TCPA), 9 cell Li-Ion battery, WinXP Pro

As the other thinkpad has a UXGA screen and I have a XGA ? Is there gonna be an Issue ?

Yep, you won't be able to enjoy UXGA with an XGA screen. The boards from a 15" will fit a 14" inch chassis.

If you plug in your model number on Lenovo's web site it comes up with the info. It is a little unusual in that it uses a 15" @ XGA res.
