Connecting the X61 to the Television?

#1 Post by kubinsky » Fri Dec 28, 2007 2:11 pm

Hi to All the X61 users.

This is my first post on this forum.

I would like to ask if anybody has hooked up the X61 to the television and used the Presentation Director for Dual display? I bought mine 3 weeks ago with no S-video port both on laptop and the docking station.

I tried connecting a VGA to S-video adapter and then connecting it to the TV but it kept giving me an error (telling me to check the resolution) when I tried suing the Presentation Director.

Thanks in advance

VGA and TV out are 2 completely diffirent signal format so you can't connect VGA into TV without using some processor that will convert VGA into TV compartable signals.

Does that mean I will have to invest in one of those $50.00+ equipment like a scan converter or something? Will a change of video card help at all?

yes, scan converter is needed and would work, but I would not recommend that due to poor image quality an high costs.

An alternative might be a multimedia box that you connect vie Ethernet or even wirelessly. This will cost you $100+ but achieves better image quality and versatility.

If you have another computer that you can connect to your TV, there are also some handy remote screen software solutions.

The viedo card itself cannot be changed.
Only way is the Asus XG Station which accepts an external PCIe video card, but this solution is $300+
