1024x768 into a UXGA/SXGA

#1 Post by sikpupy » Fri Dec 28, 2007 7:21 pm

Somoene asked about trading screens in a T43 and never got a stright answer. Not exactly what frankenstien he wanted to make, but, for me, the question would be T43 (anything besides XGA) base and using a XGA screen on it. Would only be concered about the cable connecting to the motherboard as I would get the whole screen, shell and all.

Could that be done, say, if I got a $10 T43p and tried to use a XGA screen on it?

Im off to try to find that post snd see what it said up to today, but, man, that search button results is harsh, lol.

You need a cable (and sometimes the inverter) to match the panel. Check the hardware maintenance manual. If you use the wrong cable, some combinations can ruin the motherboard.

More to the picture than meets the eye...

14" came in XGA and SXGA+
15" came in XGA, SXGA+ and UXGA ("p" models only)

Cables and inverters differ between all of the above. Put in a wrong combo and wave goodbye to mobo.

What screen size are we discussing?
What graphic chip?

And most of all, what are we trying to accomplish here?

Let us know.

Well, trying to keep my options open to grabbing a low priced T43. If I found a good cheap base, then all I need is a screen, right ? :)

T43 (any?) base
15" XGA
ATI video card, be it X300 or that other ATI whatever it is w128mb ram.

Of course I would rather get it all together, but, with a working T40 and a R52 coming I will have to reshuffle...I dont think paying top dollar for a T43 is logical right not. However, I really would like to find a cheap one so I can finish this objective and move on to my next one, or, in the least, be able to stop looking on ebay so I can get back to playing some Rainbow-Six, lol.

With the 15":
Using a SXGA+ cable with a UXGA screen stretches the image outside of the screen. Otherwise works fine.

Using an SXGA+ cable with a UXGA screen produces a smaller image on the screen only using the SXGA+ resolution. Also works fine.

Inverters are identical.
With the 14" and mono-LVDS signals i don't know.

You're referring to FireGl 3200 which has only been available in "p" models. Good luck finding one of these cheap.
