Keyboard replacement question

#1 Post by ThinkPad » Fri Dec 28, 2007 10:32 pm

I know there are various keyboard manufacture origins such as the Thai/Chinese and variations within.

I want to replace my keyboard for my t42p but love the one I have right now. I dont know if its the Thai or Chinese one, ALPS or NMD etc but I want an exact replacement. Under the keyboard says nothing about origin and am given these two numbers
FRU- 39T0581
PART 39T0550

Do these numbers give any indication of where its made so I know to get the right one?

Ive tried searching for this but have not found a definate answer. Does the NMB (highly recommended here) have a soft press feel or a clicky feel? I like keyboards that have a clicky light touch and not so spongy... :?

IMHO, keyboard is the most personal part of any laptop. You won't know until you try whether you like something or not, it's that simple.

Tastes differ tremendously. The keyboard that you like on your T42p (and the very same one I've had on most of mine) is my biggest complaint about that machine...

I heard good things about the Chicony keyboards.

Does IBM have the Thai keyboards anymore? If not, I wonder if they are on ebay?

I got a new keyboard last month, and I hate it, but I am buying a new T60 soon so I will wait until then to deal with it.

What type was this keyboard.

I remember I replaced the keyboard on my old T-41 and hated it, it was very spongy and keys like shift and space bar would not register at angles...
dont remember what type it was though...

Hey Thinkpad, I don't know which type is, is there a way to determine this without taking the keyboard off? I will let you know.

According to this thread, you can tell by taking a peek under the keys
