A31: Changing resolution of external monitor

Hi:

In an earlier post, I described the problems I am having with the laptop's display.

So I connected an external LCD monitor (Viewsonic VG2021m: 1400x1050). BTW, the A31 has a 1400x1050 resolution. However the resolution is stuck at 1280x1024. Changing resolution via Display Properties--Settings has no impact. It shows 1400x1050 but monitor is still at 1280x1024. Tried with only external display, laptop + external, laptop + external with "Extend my windows desktop onto this monitor" checked. Doesn't work.

How do I change the resolution?
