T40 with Strange Problem with Screen

#1 Post by SebastianProoth » Sun Dec 30, 2007 3:42 pm

Hello!

I am the proud owner of an IBM Thinkpad T40, 1.5Ghz, 2GB RAM, 80GB HDD system. Until very recently the machine has been extremly reliable, the best laptop one could hope for. But it has developed an interesting and confusing problem and I could use the advice of a Thinkpad guru.

When running the system on a desk or floor and not moving it, its just fine. But in the last few days the moment I decide to move the machine, especially if I pick it to the left or right of the track pad.

Is this the "loose gpu problem" I have read about? Is the motherboard screwed up totally?

Please help me out.

T40 with Strange Problem with Screen

Well. I just had the machine in peices again trying to figure out what was wrong with it. Nothing I seemed to be doing was helping until I realized I had put back my MiniPCI 802.11b card around Boxing Day or so (which is when this problem started) and I removed the card, put all the screws back in and the system is no longer "shorting out" the way it was before.

The question remains: What was the problem with the card? Was it JUST this card or would another I buy cause the same issues? Has anyone else experienced this problem?
