R52 has to be unslept twice?

#1 Post by dswtan » Sun Dec 30, 2007 5:46 pm

Recently my otherwise-trusty R52 has been having trouble unsleeping. I'm on XP SP2, everything up to date.

I generally sleep from the Start menu/Turn Off/Sleep, and that works ok (I find the physical power button and lid unreliable to initiate sleep).

When waking from sleep, all seems well at first -- it opens to the XP login screen as expected. I can log in ok. But then a little while after successfully logging-in, the thing re-iniates the sleep mode and nothing will stop it.

After that, I can unsleep again straight away -- and it then works just fine!

Any ideas please? Thanks,
Stewart.

I have a similar problem---enters sleep mode after A31 returns from hibernation. Google to find two potential fixes from Microsoft.

In the power settings is the machine set to "hibernate when I close the lid of my cmptr"?

No virus -- I'm running CA eTrust.

What search terms are you using please? I'm not seeing anything relevant coming up for the ones I'm using.

No, it's set to Stand by for that.

I've looked at:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907477

But I'm not seeing anything relevant to my problem. Thanks anyway.

I had the same problem on an R40 after the system board was replaced (thankfully, under warranty).

The solution for me was incomprehensible, but with hindsight very simple: I merely had to "safely remove" the DVD/CD-RW drive from the Ultrabay.
I believe I then just plugged it back in and had no problem ever after. But it is possible that instead I also sent the computer to sleep while missing the optical drive, and then forgot I did so.

Anyway, it's so simple it's well worth a try, even if I would be anything but surprised if it didn't work for you.

Good luck,

Giacomo

Thanks for the suggestion, Giacomo. Unfortunately this did not work in my case. I tried various combinations of your suggestion, but no luck. I'm glad it worked in your case. :-)
