T43 freezes on slight tilting

#1 Post by saraf_suman » Mon Dec 31, 2007 12:49 am

Hi,

I have a 2.5 year old T43. Off late I have been noticing 2 problems with it:

1. Occasionaly it just freezes, whenever it is tilted or when I try to work on it off my lap. The keyboard and the display just freeze. The wifi indicator switches off. It then needs to be power cycled.

2. The fan has become very very noisy. Even when the machine is just powered on, the fan starts running full throttle and makes a disturbing noise. When I checked the CPU temperature it was just fine.

1 seems like a motherboard flex problem to me? Do you think it is time to get my motherboard replaced or is there a way out?

Thanks in advance,
Suman

you may have a bad solder joint on the board or a crack, if it does this when flexed that would be a point to start troubleshooting from. Unplug any peripheral hardwares you may have in the machine also. Check event viewer to see if there is any errors listed coinciding with the lockup. Run PC dr. complete test.

I've had similar problems with my 2.5 year old T43.

I ended up just replacing the fan a couple months ago...that took care of that problem.

A few weeks ago the computer started freezing when it was on a level surface. I have to prop up the back left corner of the computer to use it. I dont have to power cycle the computer if it freezes, just proping the corning a little makes it start going again.

The problem isnt as bad when the computer is cold. Have you had any luck fixing yours?

They replaced the planar and the fan.

Seems to be working fine now.
