Haha!

We are close at the level of Apple fans interpreting every detail of top secret new notebooks. I can't believe it!

Now that ThinkSecret has been shut down by Apple Corp. we should devote the ThinkSecret website to ThinkPads!

Circled a few things in a few colors.

Click

Red: Vista external display thingy?
Medium Green: What IS that?
Blue: My guess is plastic covered metal hinges.
Purple: Maybe a switch to switch between wireless types (built in wireless N? That'd be nice)
Really light green: Sloppy finish

I'd prefer a cover for those screws.
Orange: One side opening clip thing? Looks like it. Won't be too secure if it only latches on that side..

Looks like a Lenovo logo to me.

The cover for indicator LEDs. These are between the hinges on current laptops, so an interesting new location.

Thinkpads used one opening clip since the *40 series. They still have two latches on either side of the laptop.

It's interesting to see the battery is not in the back. Hopefully that means they are pretty confident in the battery life. But man, 36 hours is insane...

Really light green: Sloppy finish I'd prefer a cover for those screws.

It's only a prototype machine. And I do hope the hinges are made of painted metal

I saw that, and I haven't quite found the words to describe how his description of the faithful who care enough to delve into this came across to me. Rainbows and kittens? I'm not sure there's anyone here who thinks everything that comes out of Lenovo is perfect.

I also think it is a bit overreacted. This "we want tell you just wait and hold your breath" policy is rather ridiculous.

For resolutions, Ideapads don't seem to have great resolutions so don't hold your breathe:
15,4" (1280*800)
17" (1440 x 900)

So 1680×1050 on 13.3", I guess you're dreaming...

I was hoping it would be named as X70. I wonder if they will contiunue the regular X series line (12"XGA/SXGA+ for tablet, non-UV processors..) I must say the 13.3" 1440*900 LED display is much more tempting than the MacBook's display. Even if it's a TN panel plus the LED backlighting, it's still far better then TN + CCFL.

PS: It's good to have red-blue-red stripes back.

@ulrich.von.lich: As they seem to devide the X series into a 13" model and a 12" model, keeping the X but changing the name to X3.. for 13" and X2.. for 12" doesn't seem like a terrible idea.

The specs seem really good to me, I only don't really see a battery-replacing option? There does seem to be a 2nd battery option which could somewhat make up for it but still...
Question remains what the price will be offcourse...

Hopefully the X200 will be like the X6 series, with the same display options. It seems most people, business or non-business users, prefer widescreen laptops so 12"XGA/SXGA+ panels will eventually be discontinued in the future I think. I have no problem with widescreens as long as their resolutions are good. But I somehow find non widescreen TPs are better looking.

I guess that's because more plug n play devices have VGA ports rather than DVI ports. For example, all projectors in my school have no DVI support. DVI ports are mostly used to hook up to external monitors, often at home. That's what the dock is there for. Even if my ThinkPad had a DVI port, I wouldn't use it anyway. I would connect the monitor to the DVI port of the dock, which makes things way easier if you intend to use your TP as a laptop and a home computer. Btw, there will be a USB dock for X300

Agreed. I basically don't like widescreens anywhere near thinkpads but I suppose with the x300 I'd make the sacrifice (if it can be called that), unless there was an x200 as suggested. The only advantage I can see of the x300 over the current x-series is weight (especially if you were to remove the optical drive, put in the extra battery and compare to an 8-cell x61), but that's minimal. Although I prefer the option of touchpad AND trackpoint, I find I use both equally and it's very convenient.

My gripe though is based on simple ergonomics, I don't want to view two pages side by side on a tiddly 13inch screen, and that's what apple(?) introduced them for, so what's the point? Watching films on the road is hardly a priority is it? And [censored] that flush x60 keyboard looks good, what's with all the wasted space at the edges of these new designer laptops? This is why I'd find it very difficult to justify the purchase of a macbook, not for any other reason (a 12" powerbook? maybe, once upon a time).

I guess I'll have to stick with my monsterous 15" R51 for another 5 years, which with travelling alot is becoming tiresome...

EDIT: Hang on, if the battery life is 4hrs with Vista, then might you not get yourself a huge battery life on linux or xp?

I used a different approach. I opened the image in Photoshop and resized it so that my USB flash drive's plug could fit snugly into the USB port. Then I measured the width of the Thinkpad in that resized image to be 315 mm. That agrees very closely with your measurement.

Heh, resurrecting old thread. Notebookreview quotes the width of the X300 as 315 mm, so respect for Photoshop/estimation skills of both of you.
