T60P LCD panel replacement - What kind of glue/resin to use?

#1 Post by devnull » Tue Jan 01, 2008 9:17 pm

I am replacing the broken 15" LCD panel on my T60P.

When I was removing the broken panel there was a kind of resin/glue used to hold the plastic bezel and the metal cover of the LCD panel. This resin/glue was applied on just one side and it is the inner side of the bottom portion of the bezel - where the LED indicators are.

It certainly is not rubber cement. The bezel came off with little effort so I don't think it is any of those acid based instant glues. Without any glue/resin there is space left between the bezel and the panel (not the case on the other 3 sides).

Does anyone know what kind of resin/glue that Lenovo may have used to hold plastic and steel? Please let me know of any other recommendations of how to go about applying the resin/glue and sewing it up.

Thanks!

Double sided tape does the trick for me.

It's sorta like double-sided tape but without the 'tape' part. ;) Whatever it is, it comes preinstalled on the plastic bezel itself; if you were to purchase another bezel from IBM Parts, you would see a piece of paper covering the adhesive that you are supposed to remove before you install the bezel. Seeing as there is no way of getting it separately or of really being able to identify exactly what it is/was, I think the best you can do is improvise and use something else. That, or buy another bezel just to get new sticky. ;)

The double sided tape that we get off the shelf doesn't work well. As Nathan mentioned its double sided tape but not really double sided "tape". Its no more than 1mm in thickness.

I checked with IBM Parts and the only way to get the bezel is to buy the entire kit and its about $100 :(

I am trying to find out if I can find that kind of tape/sheet in retail.
