Flashing Orange Z60M Battery Light
Flashing Orange Z60M Battery Light
Morning all,
Happy New Year and all that, for those that celebrate.
Question for the board: Suddenly, after hardly ever using my battery for my Z60M, the orange battery light has started flashing at me. The Windows power meter tells me that it's at 100% charge (same thing with another completely fresh battery that's never been used), but if I unplug the power cord, the laptop goes down as if the battery wasn't even present. It almost seems like it's a hardware issue, but I thought I'd ask around to see if anyone else had had the same issue.
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance,
FJ

What does ThinkVantage Power Manager tells you about the battery condition?
You can perform a reset which discharges the battery to an appropriate percentage and recharges it again.

Whoa... my Z60t just started doing it too a week ago. But my battery was only about 9 months old.
Have you tried this?
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 67765.html
I ran this program and it told me that I qualified for the replacement program. Still waiting for the replacement though. They said it would be about 8 weeks before it comes. They know it's a defect in the battery, so why should I be inconvenienced for 2 months because of their poor quality control on the products they sell?
This is my second battery. The original one did the same thing after about a year of use.
EDIT: Oh yeah, I called in for tech support and they didn't even know about this problem. I had to guide the guy to their own website for them to believe me.
What gives with these batteries?
I wonder if this lack of quality is due to the thinkpad line now being manufactured by Lenovo... and not IBM.

Mindtrix,
That's freaking fantastic, thankyou so much for pointing me in the direction of that website. It turns out that my battery is also being recalled (I'll wait a couple of weeks before I request my other battery be replaced as well).
Well, I guess it's not *fantastic* news that Lenovo can't make a half-assed battery, but at least it resolves my problem.
Oh, and FYI, it said that I should allow "up to 4 weeks for your replacement battery to arrive" when I submitted mine. Not sure what the difference in timing is; I'm only in Edmonton which I don't think is too far away from you.
Thanks for all the help, everyone.
