Run T40 with LCD screen closed

Can you run the T40 in a closed mode say when listening to music?

If so how?

The only way I could think of is to put it on a port replicator which will start the TP closed. ... JDH

This is an option in the Control Panel or the IBM software, depending on which is controlling the power settings. There's a section somewhere that asks what do when the lid is closed, with the option of standby, hibernate, or nothing.

I think you can turn on "wake on lan" function for turning the laptop on, the rest can be done remotely through the network. Network cable and another computer would be needed for the task. That's all i can say tho, since i've never tried wake on lan myself.

That's just about the only way... it's not good to do that anyways since the system also cools down thru the keyboards. With this area blocked (the LCD closed) the system will run hotter than normal.

It runs hotter indeed, but who cares if you are only listening to music?

The processor doesn't have to run at full speed to listen to music

Can someone point me to this, I can't find it in CP or Thinkpad configuration

go to control panel, power options, advanced tab, where it says, when I close the lid of my computer select "Do nothing" apply.

Press Fn+F3 then click Manage Settings on the bottom. Choose the name of the power plan which you want to edit, then click Edit => Next => Advanced => Next and you should be able to choose your ThinkPad's behavior when the lid is closed. Any modification only applies to the particular power plan you have chosen earlier.

Don't have Power Manager installed?

In Vista: Control Panel => Power Options => "Choose what closing the lid does" on the left column.

I don't run XP right now but I assume it'd be something similar.

Right-click anywhere on the desktop. Click properties. Click the screen saver tab. Then click power. Click advanced. There it is!

Thanks everyone, found it.

It would be nice if you could just press a key combination and have it a one time event. ie: return to previous when lid is lifted.
