CPU Upgrade t2400 to t7200 - will it work?

#1 Post by bfgun » Fri Jan 04, 2008 10:59 am

Question - will this work?
My current T60 Thinkpad has a intel Duo core T2400 1.83 processor. I have the option of purchasing a intel Duo Core t7200 2.0 processor -

Will this fit, and how much of a improvement would i see? any issues to keep an eye out for if this is possible?

Thanks!
B

Yes you can but you would need to verify few things. Following threads have great deal of information:

Core 2 Duo Upgrade.

T60 Core Duo --> Core 2 Duo.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

It worked.
My system board was a revision 3, updated the bios, put the new cpu in, ran a heat test. hottest i could get it to go was 69 C degrees. Not bad after using some artic silver.

Anyways, now my lappie went from a 1.83 duo core to a 2.0 duo core 2.

Is it running an 800mhz bus speed?

So far, so good. Will try a couple of cpu-intensive apps and go from there.

As for the FSB, according to CPU-Z, this is the interesting part:
Core Speed: 997.5MHz
Multiplier: x 6.0
Bus Speed: 166.3
Rated FSB: 665.0

It also lists this for Core #0.

However, running an intel CPU identification app, the cpu is designed with a 667 FSB, not 800. (unless I overclock, which i do not intend on doing)

all looks well. :D
