Quick battery question.

I know this has probably been answered but I could not find it, on a Thinkpad T61 7658 CTO will the 7 cell battery stick out the back? If I want to keep the same form factor am I forced to stick with the 4 cell?

yes you are correct. The 6 and 7 Cell batteries stick out. The point of extended batteries is the extra power they provide, not convinience

They aren't that much larger tho, they only stick out 3/4 inch or something.

Yea the space in my backpack made for laptops perfectly fits my laptop as is, I don't think 3/4 an inch will fit

Oh well I guess I can always go for the ultrabay battery for extra boost.

What about the 9 cell battery in the T61p 15 inches? Also sticks out?

here is the run down:

Widescreen laptops:
4 Cell sits flush
6 and 7 cell sticks out.

Standard laptops
6 cell sits flush
9 cell sticks out.

Doesn't matter if it's 14" or 15 or 15.4 or 14.1 or whatever. That's how they are above.

This is ugly... They should have come up with another alternative... It sure would have been nice having a 6-cell sized 9 cell battery. Wouldn't mind paying more for it...

with a 1" thick laptop you can't really stack them ontop of each other. Sticking out the back is the best solution and i like it. It doesn't stick out that much compared to some other solutions. Dell's cause the bottom of the machine to buldge therefore raising the laptop (i think the X Series does that too) While that's fine and dandy it makes it thick as a brick, and wont fit in some cases.

The problem I foresee is that every time the back of the laptop gets bumped (which will happen to some extent over the years no matter how careful you are, with cases or without) instead of the shock being spread over the rear of the case, it now gets impacted directly into the battery connector and the internals of the machine.

That and the flimsiness of the wrist-rest area (it creaks under my wrists, and the left edge has a definite edge that catches on sleeves) make me worry about the durability of the unit.
