upgrading T20 dvd

#1 Post by brodev » Sun Nov 21, 2004 12:00 pm

I have had a lot of help from this site with my "new to me" T20. So thanks for all help in the past. What I would like to do now is to put a DVD/CDRW in my T20. I do not have a lot of money and i was thinking of buying a second hand one on Ebay. The problem seems to be the bezel. I can transfer the rest of the mounting with no problems but the bezel would need to fit where the push button is and where the light is etc. Does anyone know of a site where i can check if a particular make and model might fit? TIA

I am not quite sure what exactly you want to do.
I changed my DVD Rom on the T20 with a DVD/CD-RW that I got on eBay for about $50. You just take swap the ultrabay drives. That's all.

I do not recommend an IBM DVD-Burner. Useless device (2x) with an stratospheric price tag. You can also buy a generic DVD burner, that fits into an old DVD drive. I thought about it as well, but...

-> Get a Dual-Layer USB 2.0 burner, that has the latest techno (8x) and you get them for app. $70-90 now. Much better !!!!

at the rh side of the bezel there is a cut out. Most other bezels don't have this cutout. Because of this cutout I think that I will have to change the bezel, or am I wrong?

I just noticed the comment about the usb2 burner. I was under the impression from this forum that T20 was usb 1.1

that's right, but I use a PC-Card for USB 2.0. They cost 10 bucks and work fine.
