"Clear Security Chip" has disappeared from X6x?

#1 Post by novasource » Fri Jan 04, 2008 4:33 pm

I have both an X60 (1709-CTO) and an X60 Tablet (6363-2BU).

I recently did a clean install of Vista on the X60 non-Tablet and ran into a problem with Client Security Solution 8.0 (CSS). It appears that the security chip (TPM?) needs to be reset because it was set up in a different version of Windows.

All instructions point to some Clear Security Chip option in the BIOS. Here's the amazing thing: nether my X60 or my X60 Tablet have this option in the BIOS.

The BIOS simulators for both (X60 BIOS Simulator, X60 Tablet BIOS Simulator) show this Clear Security Chip setting should be accessible in the BIOS through Security > Security Chip provided that the Security Chip Current Setting is set to Active.

Strangely, my Security Chip Current Setting is set to Active on both machines, but neither laptop has this option! On the X60 (non-tablet).

How do I clear the security chip if no such option exists in the BIOS?

For the record, I have all updates installed on both laptops via System Update, even including the BIOS updates.

This is completely baffling me.

It only works with cold boot and not a restart.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

Thanks. That did it. I must have missed this.
