Cool people who use Thinkpads I noticed today

#1 Post by lfeagan » Sun Nov 21, 2004 2:45 pm

Dudes! I found out something very cool just now that I hadn't known before, Eric S. Raymond uses a Thinkpad X40. And lots of other gurus of the land of computers happen to use Thinkpads also. Here is Eric S. Raymond's page on Fedora Core 2 on the X40 and how to resolve issues:
http://fedoranews.org/contributors/eric ... nkpad_x40/

Other cool peepz over at Redhat also use Thinkpads...
http://people.redhat.com/jason/linux-thinkpad.html
This guy was from Harvey Mudd, thus why he is cool too. :D

Anyways, back to working on xosd and other such things with Suse 9.1.

He's by far the coolest, and also using an X-Series:

On the show? Or in real life?

I had to call SBC Global tech support today for my parents, and started talking to the tech guy. He used a ThinkPad. He said it was sitting right in front of him. That was kinda cool. Their tech support actually is very good. You can tell the guys just read out of a manual, but they are quick, and so [censored] cordial, I almost feel bad being blunt with them.

I was channel surfing before dinner and lo and behold, there was JLo herself sitting at a Thinkpad in the movie "Anaconda" on HBO.

I'm afraid that my inherent good taste prevented me from leaving the movie on long enough to determine what model it was!

On the TechTV show ScreenSavers, when Pat and Leo were still cohosts (back when I still watched the show), I think I saw Pat with a ThinkPad a couple of times.

Going WOT now. TechTV is like MTV. They seem to no longer do what they started out doing. I never pass MTV with a video playing, nor do I see TechTV, in particular The Screen Savers never seem to cover anything other than games.... :-(

Yeah, I know. Life is like a casserole, you put a bunch of good stuff into it, but then you leave it in the fridge only to find someone else ate it the next day. What was once a good network for people ranging from the everyday user needing some help all the way to the technology veteran who's been in the trenches since the days of punchcards, once an entertaining network with an effective and entertaining way of bringing technology knowledge to anyone is now nothing but anorexic girls playing games that noone has ever heard of. Apparently, Comcast think's I'd rather watch smeone else play the game as opposed to buying it myself.

Oh, for people who didn't watch TechTV before the Comcast merger, TechTV was not always about games. That was not until after the merger in late 2003 or early 2004 that the network became total crap.

I think that always is the case in movies...Remember, Apples have "The Power to Save the World" because you can use them to upload viruses to alien motherships.

AFAIK, Fox News Channel uses Thinkpads.. Shephard Smith can be seen often with his, however, FNC usually has a big fat FNC sticker covering the IBM logo on the lid.

Well, combine the "black clothing" and "Windows PC" I think that'll sum up to IBM thinkpad.

Sorry, no.

The article had no problem mentioning other manufacturers or brands. If the author wanted to, s/he very easily could've mentioned Thinkpads.

I don't buy the 'clothing mixed with Windows'. <<< Think about that logically. :?

www.twit.tv

i like it alot, and from that site you can find all of their individual projects that they are still doing. kevin rose is trying to put out some cool shows over the web, and its just all around good stuff.

Yeah, and on the channel guide (or at least if you have Dish Network,) it no longer says TechTV, it says G4. On the channel itself, they no longer refer to it as G4 TechTV, just G4. It seems they want us to not realise TechTV ever existed, which ticks me off given how much better TechTV was.
