I wrote this in a graduate class last year:
I wonder what Hippocratic Oath will be like for the world of IT...
"I swear by IBM, Octus, HP and Panasonic, and I take to witness all the gods, all the goddesses, to keep according to my ability and judgement, the following Oath.
....
I will prescribe software for the good of my clients according to my ability and my judgment and never do reboot to anyone.
To please no one will I design a buggy code nor give instructions which may cause his crash.
Nor will I give a computer a disc to procure reboot.
But I will preserve the purity of my code and my comments.
I will not cut for hardware, even for clients in whom the disease is manifest; I will leave this operation to be performed by hardware engineers, specialists in this art.
In every ops center where I come I will enter only for the good of my servers, keeping myself far all intentional hacking and all technological seduction and especially from the pleasures of playing with electronic equipment or with sticky pads, be they free or at corporate expense.
