ThinkPad X61 Tablet Questions

I am going to be getting an X61 Tablet and I have some questions. I am going to be getting one with an Intel® Core™ 2 Duo L7500 LV (1.6GHz, 4MB L2, 800MHz FSB) and the 12.1" SuperView WVA SXGA+ TFT, 2x3 UltraConnect II antenna and I wanted to ask the people that have an X61 Tablet with these things how is it like? Like, how is the screen and is the processor good. I also wanted to know what is the Intel Turbo Memory? Another thing that I wanted to know is how long does it normally take to get it?

I have the same screen: I really like it, very crisp and clear. When I switch between computers/laptops with different (lower) resolutions I notices a very significant difference. The SXGA+ is very good on the tablet (in my opinion at least), very nice for reading notes, etc.

I have the same processor: Works fine for me, I'm not doing any significantly intensive tasks (i.e. Graphics editing), but for my daily needs haven't had any troubles.

Don't have turbo memory, but do a search, opinions/thoughts/what it actually does/useful or not, has been discussed.

If I had I order thinKpad again I would do these things.... I have the X61T Tablet & so far it is a good Tablet. Mine has a minor screen leakage but barely noticeable & one dead pixel. your lenovo sale customer service will be a bad experience but IBM customer service will be good.. There is trouble w/ turbo memory at first but after I figure to update the Driver thru Intel website & not Lenovo website (because lenovo had a older version of the Turbo memory driver) then it work perfectly. If I were you I will skip on Turbo Memory & select only One gig ram (one stick option) skip thinkpads memory ram upgrade option (up grade it yourself, I bought 2x2gigs gram of New Egg for $80). Take the OEM Ram when you receive the laptop out & sale it for $30 then install the 4 Gigs of Ram yourself that you bought Aftermarket, easy to do, just two screws in the back of the laptop panel. It willt ake 2 min tops. Then I would not even upgrade the hard drive leave it at 80 gigs and upgrade to 200 gig Hitachi 72k hard yourself for $180 aftermarket. Instead of paying $80 for a 100 gig 72K hard drive (you have to go w/ 72k hard drive to make the tablet faster...... Remember to select the ground shipping !!! option save $25 because they will ship Express International no matter what. It doesn't matter Lenovo ships Express out of china on all
thinkpad shipments. I know that for sure..... I will purchase the 2 year Accidental coverage because this being a Tablet & the screen might scratch & you will use mOre of the screen then a regular laptop.
the rest is up to you.

P.S. At the end of it if you can wait the price will drop big time & soon because multi Touch technology coming out the beginning of this year. They will need to come out with a new model to compete with Dell multi touch XL. IT IS NOT A GOOD TIME TO BUY A TABLET RIGHT NOW... NEW TECHNOLOGY WITH TABLET IS COMMING OUT.

If you are definitely set on the SXGA+ screen just be aware of the bezel issue. I first ordered the Superview tablet and when I got it the bezel was all jacked up so I returned it for the multiview/multitouch, and to be honest, I couldn't have been happier. If you're gonna have a tablet I feel the multitouch is very useful ...especially with powerpoint. Good luck with your shopping and happy new year!

Do you know what kind of new technology with the tablet is comming out because I need it soon.

Even if there is new technology coming out (which there always is) you won't see it released by Lenovo until at least July and probably won't be able to get your hands on one until August. How soon do you need to buy?

NOTE: I am not trying to be the biased jerk who is being a negative nancy so that he can sell his tablet either

Should I remvoe the card when I get it, it sounded as if it could help with speed and battery drain? I think I am going to install Xp after hearing all the vista complaints (ordered it with vista basic). I did the 1Gb of ram but thats all but useless I jsut picked up 4Gb PC5400 on newegg for $63...I got the msallest Hard Drive too cause I noticed that I can buy a 160GB 7200 RPM drive for less than it costs to upgrade the Lenovo (Dell has 160GB 7.2k RPM on sale for $120 for example...But I'm going to wait on the HD until prices drop even more.

Turbo Memory does not help with speed if you have >=2GB Ram but it might help with battery. Seemingly, people with TM do not get the "Battery Drain Bug" (http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=53757) and some report do get significantly better runtime than under XP. With current drivers, stability should no be an issue anymore. And Vista handwriting recognition and TIP integration is better than XP's.

Huh?!? Windows XP doesn't have a mechanism to utilize Turbo Memory so it has no affect on performance. In fact if you have Turbo Memory and you're running XP you need to install a driver to disable Turbo memory to get rid of the yellow exclamation point in the Device Manager. This is a quote from Lenovo's disable Turbo Memory download page....

Microsoft Windows XP/2000 operating systems do not support Intel Turbo Memory. If you are using Windows XP/2000, there will be a Yellow Exclamation (!) shown in Device Manager. This package is to eliminate the Yellow Exclamation (!) in Device Manager.

I do agree with you about Vista's tablet features. They are indeed MUCH better than XP's.
