X31 wake up problem (Win XP) [SOLUTION]
X31 wake up problem (Win XP) [SOLUTION]
I just got X31 and I´m very pleased with it. I only got one problem and it is a quite big one.
I think a partial part of laptopping is working stand-by and hibernate modes. Mine are working just fine, but I cant wake my X31 back up. Nothing happens when I try to wake this comp up after stand by. Nothing. I have to hard-boot it to get it back on track.
What I have done:
I have installed IBM:s hibernate drivers.
I have re-installed Windows.
Hibernate is enabled from Windows.
I have looked solution from BIOS but I have found nothing.
I have installed Fedora and Ubuntu and found out that wakeing up works on them. So its not hardware related problem.
I was pondering between the Macbook and X31 and I´m start having second thoughts now.. Please help me!
And my configuration is:
1.6Ghz PM
1024 MB
60GB 7200 rpm
ATI Mobility Radeon 16M

X31
Does the X31 say "preparing to hibernate", then "Hibernating" ? How are you getting it to hibernate? (power button or close lid?) Have you checked the settings in "Thinkpad Configuration" "Advanced" then take a look at how you have power button and lid settings?
Do you have XP installed from an MS XP disk, or from the X31 disks?
Sorry for all the questions, but maybe this will be helpful to know.

Not at all! By all means shoot me with the questions as much as you want
This problem is running me insane...
What Thinkpad Configuration do you mean? Where do I find that. Is that ThinVantage option?
I have tried suspend and hibernate both via the Windows system and via key-combo. Machine is suspending but it doesen´t wake up. Hibernation is even worse - as I said, I dont even think that computer is relly hibernating.
Any ideas?
Actually, I dont think Hibernation is working properly. After I push hibernation combo (Fn+F12) Windows says "preparing for hibernation", screen goes blank but then nothing. Harddrive is still running according lights. This is as far as I can get it. If I try to wake systemp back up, nothing happens. Only hard-boot does the trick.mpcook wrote:Does the X31 say "preparing to hibernate", then "Hibernating" ? How are you getting it to hibernate? (power button or close lid?) First it was installed from recovery partition, but I manage to wipe it with stupid Fedora installation. Now I have installed XP Pro from original MS cd and I have installed all IBM drivers and software (at least I think I have). Wake up problem was present allso with recovery installation.Do you have XP installed from an MS XP disk, or from the X31 disks?

Thinkpad configuration is a program that comes from IBM. You should be able to download it from Lenovo if you don't see it on your start menu (probably under Thinkvantage). It makes it easy to enable/disable and change settings for hibernate and suspend. I would get that program from the website and go into the settings. First step would be to disable both hibernate and suspend. Reboot. Then re-enable hibernation. I think that will delete and then re-establish your hibernation file, which may be corrupted. I don't know if it also would affect suspend.
I don't have a simple answer to this, but I have my X32 set so that when I press the power button for couple of seconds, it hibernates. Then I wake it up by pressing button again. I have the suspend set so that it suspends when I close the lid. It wakes when I open the lid. I was thinking your problem may stem from not having XP installed from the original IBM disks, but it sounds like from your comment that may not be the case.
Ordinarily, the simple solution to any issue like this is clean re-install from the X31 disks, then download and update all drivers/software.

Saseli_:
The IBM hibernate driver that you refer to in post #1 is not for Windows XP. The first thing I would do is uninstall that driver. XP does not need any third-party drivers for hibernation.

Actually that driver isn´t even installed, I checked.k0lo wrote:Saseli_:

I found out that I have installed that configuration utility but there was no sign of that @ThinVantage menu. I had to install it manually from c:/DRIVERS folder. Now I have Utility menu on my hand and I´ll give it a go. Fingers crossed...

..and no luck with that either.
Everything is up to date and settings should be allright. Problem still remains -when I close my lid, system suspends but doesen´t wake up.
EDIT: AND I FOUND THE SOLUTION!
It really was XP related problem. After I installed this suspending is working just great. And what´s best, this princess now wakes up from here beauty sleep!
Wau.. I´m so happy and reliefed now. Thanks for everyone for their help!
EDIT2:
It seems that Kerio firewall and Antivir software aren´t getting along with stand-by and hibernation. I installed those and wakeing up failed again. I had to remove both of them and install that MS update again to get it back working.
