Memory compatibility for T30 2366

#1 Post by longfellow6-6 » Mon Jan 07, 2008 9:30 am

Hi,

My local craigslist has a deal on;
(512x2) DDR2 SODIMM PC2-5300 notebook 200pin ram - new - $15.. Will this run on my T30?

I noted in other posts that PC3200 will still run at the 2100 speed of 266MHz
This just seems like a great (cheap) way to go from 512 to 1GB for my machine

Is there a link to a site for such compatibility questions?
I goofed a few months ago and bought some RAM for my kids desktop and didn't do my due diligence.

I haven't been able to resell that mistake so far.

Thanks for all the help.
This group is amazing.
Last month I replaced the system board on the T30 an it works like a dream.
Six months ago I was petrified to open a laptop.
The support here made all the difference

No they will not work.
The T30 only takes DDR, not DDR2 RAM.
You can put in PC2100 and/or PC2700 RAM 200-pin SODIMMs, up to 2x 1GB. Some PC3200 will also work, but all of them will run at the PC2100 speed, the max. that the T30 can run with.
The PC2700 is generally wider available, and cheaper than PC2100 in most cases.
I bought mine on eBay (2x 1GB Samsung generic).
You can also check ebay for 512MB RAM with IBM nr. 10K0033

OK , I'm confused 184 pin vs 200 pin

From the Lenovo Support site

Memory

* 64-bit Double Data Rate (DDR) non-parity SDRAM memory
* PC2100 at 266MHz
* Two 200 pin SO-DIMM memory slots, one slot is pre-populated with 256MB, leaving one socket available
* Supports up to two 512MB SDRAM SO DIMMs
* Supports maximum memory up to 1.0GB

But somewhere in my brain is "184 pin"

So the question is.... which is correct?

Thanks

Sorry, my bad.
It is 200-pin (and I corrected my previous post).
It also supports 2x 1GB, contrary to what the Lenovo site says.
I have that in my T30 (see signature).
