Sticky laptop hinges

#1 Post by nakman8 » Mon Jan 07, 2008 1:04 pm

My first post!
Picked up a A30 recently. The hinges are too tight.
Took screen apart and cleaned and oiled the pivot.
Still too tight. Tightness has started to weaken and crack the framework.
Anyone know how to deal with this problem?

Thanks,Dennis

Your first post and nobody replies.......sheesh....a belated Welcome to the Forum!

Personally, if the oil didn't loosen them, then I would replace them simply for the fact that if they are that tight, failure is a strong possibility.

Well I didn't reply because I solved my hinge problems by switching to TPs. I had a Dell nightmare over the issue. When I was finally able to return one with the problem, it arrived, I opened it, and it broke anew. I have a Micron in the cupboard with a broken hinge - for some months I held the plastic together while opening but then a power problem put an end to that and I got an R40.

Replace the hinges. Whatever they are made of they still rely on being mounted to a plastic frame which isn't up to much stress.
