Churning harddrive on A30

#1 Post by nakman8 » Mon Jan 07, 2008 1:13 pm

My latest acquisition is a A30 type 2652-13U.
PIII, 933mhz,256meg 10/100.
A30 was loaded up with lots of junk. Have removed junk
and de-fragged. Hard drive very slow and "churns" all the time.
Would like to do a full recovery but don't have discs.
Can someone help me out? How can I get ahold of the discs
I need?

Thanks,Dennis

First of all, welcome to the forum!

I've got disks for XP if that's what you're looking for.

If the 20Gb HDD you're referring to is an old Hitachi. it's noisy to begin with, and gets worse with age.

As for the hinges, there's no way about it apart from replacing them.

Let me know if you need any additional help.

Good luck.

Thanks for the welcome.

Yup, the HD is a Hitachi model DK23CA-20F.
I am running XP .I have disc for XP Home Edition
but I want to keep the FN keys and other functions
that it came with from the factory. Do I need the
recovery disc to for that?

You can download all of these from Lenovo's website.

Churning

Great!
Buy " churning" I mean it takes along time to react when you
open or cancel a window, etc. Will a clean install and different HD help this? Can my slow CPU speed be part of the problem?
What HD would you recommend?

Go to "supports and downloads" on Lenovo's website, type in your model number and you'll see what's available for your machine.

Download PC-Doctor from there and run a full HDD test. Your drive may be on its way out. Replacements are cheap nowadays.

I've had numerous 933Mhz A30s and they're fast enough when properly set up.

Hope this helps.
