#1 Post by rd » Mon Jan 07, 2008 1:56 pm

Friends,

I have a T42 Thinkpad which I had to format reason being O/S was not getting detected. After 3 years of receipt of this machine this was the 1st time I formatted. Please help me in suggesting the drivers which I need to install in the laptop and the links from where I will get them. Also I use a Broadband connection using a DSL Modem. For that what driver should I install?

Please help me as I am a novice in this.

MOD EDIT: Moved from X series forum to T4x.

After a clean install of the Windows go to the following link, use your Type Number and follow "Downloads and drivers" link.

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... OME-LENOVO

In some cases your wireless or ethernet card will also need drivers before they start working so you will have to use a second working computer to download the network link driver and then install it through a USB drive or CD before you can get on the internet to download the rest of the drivers.

IHTH.

Thanks for your reply.I installed the file and followed the installation process.

But this is what is mentioned:
Windows XP

Start Windows XP, XP Tablet PC Edition 2005.
Extract this package onto your hard drive. The default location is C:\DRIVERS\Win\ETHERNET.
Click Start then click Control Panel.
Click Performance and Maintenance then double-click the System icon.
Click the Hardware tab.
Click Device Manager.
Expand the Network adapters category.
Right-click Intel PRO/1000 PL Network Connection or Intel PRO/1000 MT Mobile Connection under Network adapters and click Properties.
Click the Driver tab.
Click Update Driver...
Select No, not this time and click Next.
Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced).
Click Next in the Hardware Upgrade Wizard dialog box.
Select Search for the best driver in these locations. and Include this location in the search: only.
Specify the path to the \PRO1000\Win32 sub-directory where you extracted the package in step 2.
Example: C:\DRIVERS\Win\ETHERNET\PRO1000\Win32
Click Next to start the driver installation.
Click Finish when the installation completes.
Click Close.

But unfortunately I am unable to find these in my Device manager:Expand the Network adapters category.
Right-click Intel PRO/1000 PL Network Connection or Intel PRO/1000 MT Mobile Connection under Network adapters and click Properties.

Please help

Are there any "Unknown devices" in the Device Manager?

Right click on the "Unknown device" and chose Properties, then Update Driver, browse to the directory where ethernet driver is stored, then click OK. I don't have a Windows machine handy right now so cannot tell you the exact in detail steps but in approximation its like the above.
