more info on raedon display card - need help

#1 Post by jimnto » Mon Jan 07, 2008 8:44 pm

Hey
I had the motherboard out and was preparing to reflow the chip but I am not sure and I need help. I put it back together to try and force the symptoms.
I can't get it to happen by flexing. It seems to be time related. Now the display goes very very very fussy and then more and more garbled and then re-boots. Or goes to sleep and then when i resume - it is OK.

Is it heat build up or memory failing? The thinkpad PC Doctor utility doesn't ever find problems with the video.

How can I test to see what the issue is.

on another note - when I put it back together I stripped a screw holding the display on and i have three left over.

[censored] - i wish I knew!!

It might be failing video memory chip. In that case, reflow will not help. Does external display work the same? How long are the screws? How much did you take apart?

Hi JN -

I've posted a reply on the previous thread you'd started. Would be good if you could post your findings there. Many thanks.

I reflowed - melted some parts and bought a used broken r40 to get the parts. WEll then the broken one had spilled coffee on the mb and so what the hell. i migrated all my guts from my 14"r40 over to the 15" r40.

I am a happy guy!
