no sound from my laptop

i have a R61 thinkpad.The OS i use is Windows Vista.

There is no sound coming from my laptop.
i made sure that my volume is high(not in mute) and all the other volume controls also are not set to mute.

i checked with the sound card and it shows that it is working fine.

i updated the driver.

i reinstalled the driver software.still nothing is working.

can anyone help?thankyou

Exactly what applications are you running where you are not hearing anything? I'll check out an R61 in the morning (it's 1am right now and everybody else in the house is trying to sleep ) and see if there's something else in Vista which might be muting the sound. For now, insure that the keyboard volume up button has been pressed several times and that the Volume Mixer (right-click the speaker icon in the system tray) has not been set to mute applications.

i pressed the volume button and it is working now....

i am sure i checked this before i posted this question here......but i wonder why it was not working then and working now.....

i really feel stupid now that i have tried installing the driver software and all for this.........
