Problems with PowerManager

#1 Post by Shade » Tue Jan 08, 2008 9:50 am

When I press FN + F3 I get this error: "You are not authorized to display the panel for selecting a power scheme"

1. Tried to reinstall power manager and pm driver. Still same problem.
2. Tried to edit the registry under,
HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Control Panel -> PowerCfg -> Powerpolicies - There were 15 policies. So i deleted all except 1, went into CMD and did a,

Code: Select all

powercfg /RestoreDefaultPolicies
I restarted, and now I am able to open power manager again. BUT.

Now I can't select a powerscheme.. It seems like it just ignores me when I press one. I tried to make a new scheme. It still ignores me. I know its on maximum performance, but it does not show it in the manager. Its like I'm not active on any of the power profiles.

Anyone..?

I wonder if this could be somehow related or tied in to your other thread: Audio Problem, HELP please - as things seem to be going down hill since you completed a clean XP install recently. Also was any hardware changed or added recently?

Also forgot to mention:

When you completed your clean install did you re-install the OS fixes - they were/are usually located in the: C:\IBMTOOLS\OSFIXES.
If you have not they can be found here under Common Windows update modules - Some QFE modules have to be installed before others, so please read the osfx31us.txt document

Note: QFE module 896256 relates to Power management features - (not sure if this relates to the problem you are experiencing).
Computers that are running Windows XP Service Pack 2 and that are equipped with multiple processors that support processor power management features may experience decreased performance

Yeah, I've downloaded and installed all the related OSfixes for T60 from lenovos site. (didn't re-install os fixes, b/c I was stupid enough to format my harddrive before making a backup of the R&R partition)
You're right, I have been having some problems since my clean install, but I don't think this is related to my audio problem tho. Think the problem is related to the thinkvantage power manager.

I also tried to install the 896256 hotfix.. Still same problem.

I am pretty much at the same point you are with my T61. I hope someone around here who knows a solution stumbles upon our posts!

Try this blog posting.
This power manager thing is a known error. There is ALOT of mis-information on it around the web. Alot of people seemed to have positive results going through that blog post. For me personally, I didn't get anywhere. I still have the problem, and it is infuriating. At this stage I will never by a thinkpad again.

I'm going to put a full post on here to see if anyone else has solved the problem.
