IBM Rapid Restore Ultra ( IBM RRU)

#1 Post by fedagnt007 » Tue Jan 08, 2008 12:12 pm

Do you really need to use and can you uninstall the IBM RRU without problem to the service partition? It is my understanding that you do not need to use the IBM RRU if you use another backup utility (i.e., Symantec Ghost). The RRU is used just for backups that a user does within Windows and does not mess up the "factory" restore settings on the service partition. Please Advise.

Thanks.....

If my memory do me a justice then IBM RRU was different than IBM Rescue and Recovery environment, even if it's an older version of R n R, neither uninstalling it would stop you from entering service partition nor would do any harm to it.

Thanks for your time in replying to my post. The Rapid Restore Ultra and the Rescue and Recovery are the same things, except just different names. :D Thanks again.....

Just did 2 scans on the Windows One Care site that found the following;

1 Medium issue found
Remote access;Win32/RealVNC
Issue 1
c:\system volume information\_restore{daad8284-5896- 4 b40-a753-845bdc2e5a5}\rp1\a0001106.exe
c:\ibmtools\apps\rrpc\superinstall.exe

(2 Items found, unable to clean)

Considered deleting RRPC...& letting scanner clean up the mess...
I mean rest...
The RRPC file sits in the recycle bin as I write ...

Let us know how it goes & I will do same...
Thanks,
D

I believe it will go away once you clean your old restore points in Windows.
