Windows Media Player 11 BSOD-ing Thinkpad 600

#1 Post by UDX » Tue Jan 08, 2008 5:02 pm

Since I like Thinkpad 600 the most and it's compatibility with MARGI DVD decoder card (I think it's the only model where sound directly works without using line in on the sound card), I recently ran windows updated and upgraded to Windows Media Player 11.

Beforehand I was using WMP 9.

Well Margi DVD Decoder drivers were never written for XP, however, for the most part they worked fine.

Also I am using Windows Media Player to watch DVD's because of smoothing option making the picture quality really good.

However, ever since the WMP11 got installed halfway through watching Star Wars 3 (my double layer backup copy using Toshiba DVD Rom) I get a blue screen - error in stream.sys.

System restarts and message that it has been recovered from serious error is shown.

Is there a way to overcome this in the case I wish to go WMP11?

The stream class driver (stream.sys) is used by video capture devices, though it can also be used to develop audio devices (including combined video and audio capture devices).
Seems there is a driver issue.... I'd assume it's with the Margi DVD decoder simply because the latest driver is for W2K.

WMP11 is a long stretch on any video card with less than 64MB of video RAM, it's the minimum requirement. I'd never say it can't be done but it will place a tax on an older systems achitecture, hence the BSOD's.

Nice card though, it's a shame they aren't providing updated drivers for XP.
