R52 trackpoint sticky/ keyboard "/ slow start and no US

#1 Post by suffisance » Tue Jan 08, 2008 6:50 pm

I have a much-cherished and probably also somewhat abused old R52 running Windows XP. Computers are not my strong suit, but I'd appreciate any help.

Up until a couple of weeks ago it was running fine. It still runs fine in diagnostics and runs better in safe mode. But in general the keyboard sticks (delay b/w typing and characters appearing) and the trackpoint doesn't respond normally about half the time. The trackpoint runs if I put more pressure on it. Additionally, media players and such won't run unless pressure's applied to the trackpoint the whole time I'm playing smthng. Lastly, it can't detect the USB ports and/or plugging in USB devices makes it crash. Thus I can't try another mouse either.Ctrl-alt-delete will stop it for a while, but it always freezes eventually (& ppposs knocks out my internet). Starting better since registry cleanup but still dodgy.

I can't find anything doing scans. I'd appreciate help knowing if this could be fixable or if it's mechanical.

Thanks in advance:)

Christina

If I were you I would reformat and reinstall windows. It is a really easy process but if you are unable to do it take it to a computer repair shop. That is if you have a windows disk and key. If not they will most liekely make you buy one
