Which wireless router for 108mbs with IBMb/g Atheros Ar5004G

#1 Post by yellow_lenghan » Mon Nov 22, 2004 3:24 am

I recently bought from Bill a 2373JTU T42 which comes with the IBM b/g Mini PCI card (Atheros chipset Ar5004G).

For a wireless router, I hesitate between buying DLink DI-624 or Netgear WGT624.

My question is which between those two is more suited to benefit from the Super G technology? Please relate any experience you had. Both DLink and Netgear say that Super G is only guranteed when their own-brand PCI card is used... so Super G performance might be quite different for each router when used with the IBM b/g card.

Also if my other criteria are stablilty (no disconnection) and range.. which of the two would you recommend?

Thank you in advance...

well personally i would reccomend a linksys. as far as reliability is concerned i havent had any issues with my linksys routers. I use them all the time. But if you really want to go "SUPER SPEED" which I could realy careless for b/c going 54 or 108 i'd rather just jack in and go 1000.

Between those 2 you have listed there.
I would pick the Netgear
Excellent range and speed on this little thing.
Very easy to set up. Plus the dang looks great as opposed to most other ugly routers.

I picked the Linksys, but if I had to choose between your choices, I would pick the D-Link.

Cnet offers some reviews on all those. They all pretty much rated the same.

My Linksys has the Speedboost technology, with the 108, but it does not work with the configeration I have. It seems that they want you to be using their branded stuff.

There is a thread here, if I remember correctly, that deals with this issue of getting the higher speed, with the IBM stock stuff.
