HELP! I can't login to windows, hangs on CLient Security!

#1 Post by setherd » Wed Jan 09, 2008 3:45 am

AVG said it found a trojan in an IBM file. (I can't remember exactly)
I thought it was a false positive but told it to to put it in the virus vault and I was going to look at it later.
windows then downloaded some critical update and rebooted.
now it hangs when communicating with the IBM user verification manager. I can't logon in safe mode either.
I think the file I quarantined was part of it.

any advice is appreciated.
luckily I just did a disk image a week ago if it comes to that.

I dual boot linux and am posting from it.
take care,
Seth

Can you boot into Recovery partition?
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

I finally got it to work.
I first restored just the file I have loacked away. that didn't work
then I restored the entire security folder. that didn't work.

finally I just restored my entire partition (C drive) that worked.

on a side note. acronis true image worked perfectly. I recommend it :)
take care,
Seth
