It's close!

Fedex Ground is very fast. I just checked tracking, and the new Z series that I bought for my niece is out for delivery at my house sometime today.

Yay!

While it's not for me, I'll be doing the initial setup and configuration, and that gives me a chance to lay hands on a Z series for the very first time.

I don't know how I'm going to focus on work the rest of the afternoon...

A new Thinkpad in the family. I'll have to send out cards or something  .

Curious where you bought your niece's Z61t? Since the model's been discontinued, they're tough to find.

I bought it on eBay. It wasn't too hard to find a basic model with a Celeron processor. I must say though, that there's a fair bit of turnover. At least twice that I can think of, I found a model that I liked, from a seller with a listing written in a way that gave me some confidence, only to dither about and have the machine sell while I was making up my mind. Finally, I just jumped and bought. I tend to dither too much anyway, in general.

One thing though: the warranty clock apparently began ticking in early December. I'm guessing the guy I bought from on eBay took advantage of some special sale that Lenovo had at about that time, and then just flipped the machine on eBay. When I called for a warranty issue, they told the warranty expired in early December of 2008. I bought the machine just this week. So I've essentially missed one month of warranty. Not Lenovo's fault. But one thing to be aware of, I guess, when buying on eBay.

Edit: I should mention that the machine I bought was "new in box".

Best,

Jonathan

There was a recent Lenovo sale on the Z61t w/celeron processors. They're good machines.

You can upgrade the processor to either a core duo or core 2 duo (I forget which one); search the boards.

CJ, yes, I've seen those posts about upgrading CPUs. Not going to do it right now, but it's definitely an idea I'm keeping in the back of my mind.
