Installed 98SE on Series i1400 2611-411 using an OEM (not IBM) version of SE. Ended up with all features working except the display, which was only 16 colors and minimal resolution. Could not adjust via Display Properties.
Got and installed the original Video driver for that system from Lenovo site, but SE would not run in - got 'Windows Protection Error' screens until I reinstalled the generic VGA Standard adapter and driver.
Found something today about a win98 supplement file, APMINST,inf, that seemed to indicate it may have addressed the problem, however, it also seems I should have had that on the boot floppy when I started the installation.
Does anyone know if this APMINST.inf file would solve the display driver incompatability, and if so, how I could install it without doing a complete reinstall from scratch?
Thanks, my eyes are getting blurry from looking at that screen.
98SE upgrade produces low resolution display

Welcome to the Forum!
APMINST is Advanced Power Management - instruction(s). One aspect of it that effects your LCD would be to make your display dim, turn off while on battery power. What you need to do is to install all of the IBM supplementals for 98SE from Lenovo, then install the IBM video driver.

Thank you for your response, now I have several more questions:
Where do I find these 98SE specific supplements on the Lenovo website? I could not find anything of that nature.
Are they generic, or are they for specific models?
I take it, once I find them, they can be installed without having to redo the SE install from scratch?
Are there instructions on the site for doing that?
Sorry for the additional questions, and I do appreciate your support.

My appologies, I looked up your laptop and found supplement files for ME but not 98SE.
Any files that are downloaded from Lenovo won't require you to reinstall your OS. They are self unzipping and will install in C:\Drivers\WIN98\FileName
Yes, I can see how your eyes ARE blurry, so are mine......
Try this one; Here. It's a newer driver, it can't be worse than what you've tried so far. It's not for your specific laptop but is for the MagicGraph 128XD. I would also go ahead and apply the APMINST, not that it will help your video but it will help the performance of your PC.
Don't worry about asking too many questions, it's better that you do.
