NMB keyboard

#1 Post by ThinkPad » Wed Jan 09, 2008 5:58 pm

I just got the highly appraised Thai made NMB keyboard after a difficult search to find an authentic one.

I must say this is exactly what I was looking for. Despite reading all the threads about this I was still unsure if this was what I wanted. Turns out it was just the thing I wanted because it feels just like my old T-41 that was a joy to type on and no other laptop was able to replicate that same feeling.

Just to make sure this is an authentic one right?

Congrats!

I have one of theese on my T40 too - they are great and very durable.

I've tried other thinkpads with the chinese keyboard - thats just not the same joy typing on!

My main T42 has a Chicony keyboard, and also have an NMB spare keyboard and another on my second T42.

The NMB has a dampened quiet action, while the Chicony is lighter with a more springy return. Initially I found the NMB attractive, but ultimately the Chicony was faster for typing. It really comes down to personal preference.

Is it just me or do the NMB keys get shiny very quickly? When I got my thailand NMB (my T42 was in to get a new motherboard, this was back in December 2004 --without my consent they replaced the keyboard I had which came with the glossy plastic piece around the power button with the NMB) it only took a few weeks of use for keys to get glossy, and at that time I only did about 30% of my computing on my thinkpad, I was still using a desktop.

Of course since then it hasn't really gotten any worse, but I'm considering sourcing a new thai NMB keyboard so that I don't have the glossy keys anymore.

Concur. I've got a couple of NMBs (one in my T43, another spare that I got from a trashed system at work recently), and though they may not be "better" than the Chiconys, they have a more subdued feel. I noticed the keys are aligned more precisely, too. Enjoy!
