Who is manufacturing 9.5mm Blu-ray drives?

#1 Post by Peak2Peak » Wed Jan 09, 2008 6:16 pm

I would like to pose following questions regarding Blu-ray drives for the T6x.

1. Who is manufacturing 9.5mm Blu-ray drives? (apart from Panasonic)
2. Are they available (now), is so at what cost?
3. Has Lenovo been testing them?
4. Do you think that Lenovo will whitelist Blu-ray drives in the future? - (if they haven't already)

I have seen a 12.7mm Blu-ray drive (Ultrabay enhanced drives???) listed in the T61 14.1" widescreen Hardware Maintenance Manual (FRU: 39T2853) - but currently do not see them listed as options / CTO's.

Many thanks

the drive linked above is ultrabay enhanced (12.7mm), not ultrabay slim (9.5mm).

$849 for a blue ray drive. wow just like buying a complete new laptop... :D the 9.5mm would probably be more expensive.

Thanks for that link on engadget. The high cost of internal drives could likely see external drives first become popular, and burning speed could also be higher with external drives. The ability to burn large volumes of video and data files to optical media is attractive.
