T42 windows 2000 display issue

#1 Post by jsullivan » Wed Jan 09, 2008 6:39 pm

Hello fellow thinkpad owners,

I have a T42 with ati radeon mobility 7500. I am having an issue with my dual monitor set up. I am trying to have just one main screen (my laptop monitor) and use the second screen to place windows. No matter what I try either my screen replicates to the secondary or my primary screen becomes one large screen and carries over to the second.

Has anyone had this problem?

The same issue occurs with my docking station as well.

Thanks again! and what a great forum!

I believe the hardware (graphics chip) does not support what you want. (something like a dual head graphics card in a desktop) You might need one of the big ugly docking stations that has a separate PCI slot that supports its own video card. I actually have one here. It is a 2877 dock. I got it thrown in with a PC I was buying, so I cannot guarantee it works. All I know is that it when I plugged it in, it supplied power to a machine that was plugged into it. It also has a slot for an Ultrabay 2000 device. I'm not sure it does what you want either, but if you want it, you can have it for a few dollars plus shipping. I would love to get rid of it. Send me a private message.

I have the same configuration as you and works fine

I use my attached monitor as the primary and the Laptop as the secondary. It works great actually. I just installed an awsome Samsung 22" and never going back! I can drag and drop windows from one monitor to another.

I wish I could upload an image here so I can show you.

Great. I never knew it would work like that.
