IBM T60 Series

#1 Post by marco1 » Thu Jan 10, 2008 5:12 pm

I'm a little confused about the different cpu ratings on the t60 computer. For instance the higher Ghz ratings doesn't necessarily mean its faster than the higher number eg T5400 with a lower Ghz rating or when the higher Ghz rating is represented by a lower number eg T2400. I thought I was going to have problems deciphering between P4's and Centrino's...LOL

Also is there a website that explains the differences.

Thanking you in advance

the Ghz numbers should have been long ago forgotten. This is why AMD started with the Athlon XP rating system because Ghz doesn't mean all that much anymore.

Ghz isn't all used to decipher how powerful a CPU is, you need stuff like bus speeds, cache size, instruction sets and lots of other things.

Here;s the description of the computer I just bought. As far as T60's go is it lower end or middle of the pack I noticed yours is a 2.0 Ghz system. Does it have a higher/lower data bus speed. If its lower then is this a faster computer despite yours being hiigher Ghz

ok well mine would probably be just a tad faster than yours because of the amount of RAM and the CPU being a tad faster. 170mhz isn't a big deal for normal stuff (browsing, checking email)

Both of our machines are Core Duos, if yours were Core 2 Duo then i'd say yours then might be a even or a bit faster.

The Core 2 Duos and Core 2 Quads are of-course faster processors by design. Here's a good read and comparison of how much faster:

http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/sh ... i=2808&p=1

[Note] = Oh and bye the way... your system model/type would give us all that info and you can just specify things you've upgraded. The type is a number like mine 2007-66U. If you go to lenovo.com and click downloads and then on the right type in the number it brings up all that info. If you want to find yours just flip over your laptop and look for the barcode with the type above it.

how do you tell the difference between a core duo and core 2 duo processor??

my system properties says I have:

Lenovo
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU
T7200 @ 2.00GHz

The sticker on the case says Intel Centrino Duo...

Thanks

You have a Core 2 Duo CPU - Basically T7xxx = Core 2 Duo CPU's & T2xxx are Core Duo CPU's

Note: there are other's - Forum members, please point "charredii" to other threads if they exist - thanks.

Basically :

T1xxx = core solo ( same as core duo, but only 1 core instead of 2 )
T2xxx = core duo
T5xxx = core 2 duo with 2 Mb cache
T7xxx = core 2 duo with 4 Mb cache
T8xxx and T9xxx are the up-coming Penryn series

Great info Tony. Thanks for making this Intel naming quagmire seem so simple.

Core 2 Duo's are 64 bit capable as well whereas Core Duo's are not.
