Possible to switch off WiFi in the hardware?

#1 Post by dodginess » Thu Jan 10, 2008 7:35 pm

Hi All,

This is my first post so please bear with me...etc, etc.

I've searched the forums but didn't get a definitive answer to the following question, which is that I've tried to turn off the WiFi receiver (through the settings in XP) and the receiver icon is still active. Being *slightly* security concious - in particular because I need the laptop to be standalone and won't even be connecting it to a LAN or the Internet - I need to be confident that the WiFi is really switched off. I've looked through the BIOS settings but nothing seemed obvious (to be fair, I've had the laptop a day so may have missed something).

Can anyone offer any guidance please?

Many Thanks,

Neil

In the BIOS, under config/network, you can disable the internal network device and the internal wireless device.

This is the problem that I'm having. I just reinstalled with the IBM System recovery disks on my T41. Everything appears to be back up with the exception of my wireless card. It is selected as on in the bios. I have downloaded what are, I believe, to be the latest drivers (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 62922.html) but still nothing.

Any ideas? It just doesn't appear to see my card.

Do you see wireless as a selection on the fn-F5 screen? If so, turn it on.
