Stuttering DVD playback T61 (Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M)

#1 Post by Rundelight » Fri Jan 11, 2008 7:09 am

I have a 15" (1680x1050) T61 with the NVidia Quadro NVS 140M graphics card, running on XP Pro.

When I tried to play a dvd I noticed playback stuttering a lot, this occurred in both Intervideo WinDVD and Windows Media Player.

I am running the latest driver from Lenovo home page for the grapihcs card

Version: 6.14.11.5666
Release Date: 2007/10/04

Any body else expericing the same poor performance or perhaps even have a solution?

Kind regards
Rundelight

Try another application: Gomplayer from http://www.gomplayer.com/main.html or VLC Media Player from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
Both contain most of the required codecs already.
They are also less resource-hungry.

I installed the VLC media player it played the video without stuttering!!

I am somewhat puzzled by the fact that a laptop with a dedicated grapihcs card will not play video without stuttering, is this because the marriage between Lenovo and Nvidia is fairly new so we have to wait for a driver update

You could have some older codes, or even missing one.
VLC seems to be everybody's favorite.

Make sure DMA mode is enabled for the player:
