A21p project

Huh? What's he doing with an A21p?

Sourced from eBay, this 2629-H1U is my latest desire to revive yet another UXGA system. Described as non-powering, physically it's in fairly good shape, however....

- a quick look at the bottom of the system seems to say that some of the screws are not original
- three of the screws on the back panel which hold the hinges on are red with rounded heads
- something inside is rattling around
- has the exact symptoms of a T2x "Blink of Death" (BOD); pressing the power button makes the HD LED flash once; no other signs of life, even after removing all of the extra hardware

I'm hoping that the use of different screws has not permanently damaged the motherboard, like for an A31p I still have, and that a simple cure is available (figuring out where to put the rattling part back on the motherboard :) ). Worse case is I spent $50 for two good AC adapters and one off-brand battery (steady green in external charger). The one IBM battery exhibits a flashing green LED in the charger right now so I don't know if it's good. Best case, the laptop can be fully repaired. Middle ground is that the display will be good and I'll be able to swap it into an A31p; anybody know if that's possible?

I'm sorry, Ray, the displays between A2x and A3x are not interchangeable.

Thanks, George. Well, here's hoping that I can work some magic and get lucky with this one...

Well, you'll always be able to get your money back-and then some-by selling the batteries and adapters... :D

And there seems to be some dislike that A series machines exhibit towards you...jealousy because of your undying love for 600s and T2s, what do you think? Nasty little buggers, these A oldtimers...
