ThinkPad 600 - Problem with fan

#1 Post by Griggi » Fri Jan 11, 2008 4:11 pm

Hi everybody!

I'm new here because I have a big problem with my ThinkPad 600. So I already joined the German ThinkPad-Forum, but I didn't find any solution to my problem.

A friend of mine gave me his old notebook because he damaged the fan connector. The connector is completely removed (No white plastic and the places where the metal pins are connected to the motherboard are damaged, too :( )

Maybe you can help me. Because at the side of the places where the pins had contact to the motherboard there are such circles with cables (like on this picture http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... ectrum.jpg - I'm sorry, but I can't descripe in Enlish how you call it - In Germany it's called "Leiterbahn" :S) and some of them are heading to the contacts where the metal pins where.

It would be very nice of you, if you could make a picture like that http://griggiup.gr.funpic.de/files/1200085514.jpg where I can see which cicles are for the +5V, for the GND and for the cooler signal. :)
Additional information to the picture bellow: The grey thing at the left side of the picture is the USB-Connector and those small yellow circles I mentioned, and those 3 blocks are the places where the matal pins have been :(

Regards,
Griggi :)

(Please excuse my bad english - I hope you will understand the text above... I'm still learning English at school - If you look into my profile you'll see I'm from Germany)

--GER---

---ENG---
Regading your signature you own a 600 and a 600E, so you can disassemble your 600E and check because the connector / pinout should be the same...

Hi el-sahef!

-German-

-English-
Of coure I could do so, but the problem is, that I don't want to damage my 600E (and I also do own a working 600, too). The problem is, I would have to remove the plasic of the fan connector, and if I would do so on the other Motherboards, they probably be damaged, too. :(

Hi guys! and welcome both if you haven't already been welcomed!

With luck and some skill, you can make a jumper wire to comlete the circuit for the fan that bypasses the damaged portion of the board. Be careful to insulate the wires from all other possible contacts.
If you can, take a picture of the damaged area. Maybe we can help.

"Leiterbahn" = Conductive strip, or more precisely, "trace"

Auf Deutsch: (with the help of Babelfish)

Hi everybody!

First of all: Thanks joester! Your forum is great, and I'll use it for questions in the future ;)

-English-
I'm so lucky :) I just found the trace that is delivering the +5V signal for the CPU Fan. I took some emery ("Schmirgelpapier", I hope Google translated it right ;) - Its paper with sand on it, I hope you know what I mean :D) and I was using it on the motherboard (Sounds hart, but it finaly helped).
Tomorrow I'm going to stick the cables of the fan onto the motherboard and let's hope it works ;)

-Deutsch-

So, thank you very much for your tips :)
