Replaced T41p with T42, getting "Delayed Write Failed&

#1 Post by driven » Sat Jan 12, 2008 4:15 am

Hi, I recently replaced my 2374-GGU 's motherboard with a T42 (fru 93p3775) board and did a reinstall with the recovery cds, which doesn't support t42s.. Would this be the cause of my many "Delayed Write Failed" errors during the recovery process as well as during software installs and windows updates?

I also get other errors along the lines of:

1. ibm hard drive active protection system (ikernel.exe) could not be installed
2. violation, only for IBM products

Also, my serial Number now shows 0000000 in PC-Doctor 5
would this be a problem, is it possible to update the serial?
And is it safe to update the bios through system update 3.10?

Thanks in advance!

I usually set the serial number that way on boards.

You will need the Hardware Maintenance Diskette and like you said a USB floppy.

I doubt that the serial number is related.

Rich do you think the incorrect model and type would cause this particular problem. Going from the T41p to a T42p model and type.

I have never seen this behavior before.

I don't know how the type is used during the install. I thought the hardware was queried, but I'm not sure. Certainly, T42s are supposed to use different recovery CDs. I know they change the way the recovery information is stored (HPA vs. FAT32 partition) but I would think the type of error described would be related to the disk controller, and I don't know of any difference between T41 and T42 in that area. The first thing to try would be to recover using real T42 CDs, but if T41 CDs were used, there is probably an HPA on the disk and there are several steps needeed to make the drive available for T42 recovery. If Driven wants to contact me, I have T42 recovery CDs and can provide specific instructions.

Thanks for the replies richk and Brad
and Thanks for the board Brad!

I just picked up a usb floppy tonight. Something handy to have around, i guess...

Just set the serial
Will try the recovery again after erasing the HD with the tool on the HMD floppy

But yes, thanks for offering help with the T42 recovery cds richk.
Would there be any legal issues with obtaining these cds?

Alright, no more errors during installation!
Setting the serial and erasing the hd with the HMD seemed to have done the trick!
