G40 Processor Swap

#1 Post by horatioappleseed » Sat Jan 12, 2008 12:44 pm

I currently own a G40 model 2389 with Intel Celeron 2.4gig processor. I want to know, first of all, if possible,If I can install a P4 in this thing. I know these machines have desktop processors. If this can be done, could I just install a processor of the same socket type, or would I have to swap out the motherboard as well? What is the socket type of these processors? If this job can be done, how difficult would it be? Any information would be greatly appreciated....

Welcome to the forum!

Yes, you can swap the CPU and not the board, or you can swap both. A little research on what CPUs have originally been put in by IBM will tell you exactly what to look for.
