I have a T43 with a driver problem. I updated Windows XP to SR-2. Some of the machine dependent drivers were wiped in the process. I downloaded the entire matrix from the Lenovo web site and have had success installing most of them.
The one that is causing problems is the “Trusted Platform Module”. I unpacked the driver and followed the instructions in the readme file. The “unknown device” begins to load the driver and correctly identifies itself as a “winbond trusted platform module 1.1”. It stops during the installation and asks for file: “tpm11x32.sys” which is strange, as this file is located in the same directory it is already loading drivers from. I set the path to the correct folder and click OK. It continues installing for a couple of seconds, then the system locks up to where power cycling is required.
I tried repeating the process a couple times, even downloading a new copy of the file from the Lenovo site. Same results.
I have an older T43p and tried using the files in the driver directory. However, this directory is labeled “TPM_NS” instead of just “TPM” (National Semiconductor provides the driver). All the files have “NS” in front of their file name. I uninstalled the driver, found the device, and repeated the process. Even when using the NS files, it still asks for the version without “NS” in the file name. I tried changing the file name, and get the same results – machine locks up in its tracks.
Anyone have this same problem?
What does the “Trusted Platform Module” do anyway?
Does anyone know how to inform Lenovo one of their driver downloads is corrupt?
Problems with Trusted Platform Module driver
I don't have a solution for you, but here's a thread with more info on the TPM:

I just disabled it on my laptop and have not noticed any issues so far.
