OSX on my Thinkpad?

#1 Post by tylerwylie » Sun Jan 13, 2008 12:52 am

Will my T61 work with Leopard?

I know the WiFi will not, so I'm going to try to get a cheap atheros based PCMCIA card for that, any recommendations? Any other hardware on my Thinkpad I'll need to worry about not working? I assume the 965 graphics card will function just fine, but anything else possibly?

All the relevant hardware is in my signature by the way.

You have almost the same one I got. The Intel X3100 works with the X3100 Natit kernel Extension (you need to search for this), hard disk, DVD, and USB work. Both BlueTooth and FireWire claim they work. Nothing else works with OSX currently on this laptop.

No audio, no cardbus (PC CARD, or PCMCIA adapters do not work), Intel Wifi does not work, and no Intel LAN.

If you want Wifi, you need an Atheros based Mini-PCIe card (an airport card). The Bios of a Lenovo ONLY supports Lenovo cards, so you are limited to the Lenovo mini-PCIe cards if you want Wifi. Take the intel one out and put in an Atheros card. I found that the Lenovo Atheros bg and n card works perfect.

You can get LAN support with a supported USB LAN card.

I'd read the other thread which has a lot of good info on this laptop with links to drivers but it doesn't have links to any Natit stuff for the X3100. I setup mine before seeing this thread, but there is a lot of good info there.

This is NOT a good OSX laptop and certainly not a clean or easy install. The future may be better for it, we'll see.

With IATKOS 1.0, you should get accellerated graphics on the GMA X3100 (you'll need to select the driver in the custom install section). As the other poster stated, cardbus and Intel WiFi are a no go. An Atheros mini-PCIE works well, but you need an IBM-branded card. For wired Ethernet, a cheap USB-ethernet adapter is the best I've found (no drivers for built-in ethernet). Sound and sleep are also out.
