T20 replacement keys.

#1 Post by catscam » Sun Jan 13, 2008 1:40 am

I was about to buy some missing replacement keys for my T20 on Ebay, even though I’m not a big fan of that place. When I thought maybe I should ask here first, I need the keys O, P with the attachment housing. Can anyone recommend a place? If they take credit cards that would be even better, the going rate seems to be about 3 to 5 dollars a key.

Thanks

First question would be, "what's the FRU of your keyboard?". There's at least two different styles of mounting frames used on T2x keyboards. I don't have a picture of the differences right now, but I'll see what I can do tomorrow. From memory, there's a type with two white "arms" and the other is three pieces; one white, two black. Here's the latter type:

It came off of an US keyboard, FRU 02K5729, made in Thailand. Both the mounting frame and keycaps need to go together. You can't swap a keycap or frame off one type and put it on the other.

And I thought this was going to be an easy one. Looks like my key mount is different then that one. Here is a picture of my keyboard, all it has to attach to is 4 mettle prongs & the unit that holds the key is a white Y shaped plastic piece.

This guy on eBay sells individual keys http://stores.ebay.com/Laptop-Keyboard-Keys
If you look in the post for for IBM T20-etc. keys he has some good pictures of the different types.
(Ray, copy them onto your own website).

Big thanks for those links & help RealBlackStuff, not only were they the cheapest price I had seen for replacement keys. But the seller was kind enough to include a second key, fastener & rubber for free. It was frustrating to get the fasteners on, but once I looked at the picture on the site & saw I was doing it wrong then everything worked great. The keys were for a HP keyboard that are a dark blue & not black but other then that there exact.
